Reina Luisa Tamayo Danger, courageous mother of the political prisoner Orlando Zapata Tamayo who died for freedom in Cuba

Frankfurt am Main (10th of August 2010) – Reina Luisa Tamayo Danger, mother of the Cuban political prisoner Orlando Zapata Tamayos who died because of a hunger strike on the 23rd of February 2010, was knocked up by plainclothes officials and government rowdy group, reports the International Society for Human Rights (ISHR). Zapata's mother belongs to the "Ladies in White", an organization of relatives of political prisoners, and lives in the east of Cuba. She has been already observed and intimidated for weeks. ISHR demands an immediately stop of threats and violation against Reina Luisa Tamayo Danger and her family.

The political prisoner Orlando Zapata Tamayo, founder of the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes freedom movement in Las Tunas and active member of the Christian Social movement in Cuba, was arrested together with 74 civil rights activists and independent journalist during the so called Cuban "Black Spring" in March 2003 and sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment. He died on the 23rd of February 2010 on his 86th day of hunger strike protesting against torture and the degrading prison conditions in Cuba.

His mother Reina Luisa Tamayo Danger is a member of the organization "Ladies in White", who was awarded by the Sakharov Human Rights Prize of the European Parliament for their non-violent engagement. After her son's death she continued the struggle for the release of all political prisoners in Cuba – the reason of constant threats and attacks against her by security officials and regime owned rowdies. Other members of her family are also affected by this.
