Invitation to the 41st Annual International Society of Human Rights Conference

From April 12-14, 2013, the German Branch of the International Society for Human Rights will be holding the 41st Annual ISHR Conference at the Gustav Stresemann Institute (GSI) in Bonn, Germany. The conference will bring together human rights activists from Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America to exchange experiences, to collaborate on future actions, and to network. The conference presentations and discussions will be led by expert witnesses and will focus on various, present-day human rights abuses and ongoing situations worldwide.

Foundation of ISHR USA

On October 13, 2012, a cheerful atmosphere of optimism surrounded the memorial place "Casa del Preso" in Miami.  The International Society for Human Rights (ISHR) USA was founded. The Event was hosted by the International Society for Human Rights (ISHR/IGFM), German Section. Within the last years, numerous residents of the United States joined the organization. 74 people participated in the event, amongst them the Consul General Eva Countess Kendeffy, the president of Mothers and Women against Repression (M.A.R. por Cuba) Sylvia Iriondo and the president of the "Casa del Preso" Luis Infante.

Conference: Annual Meeting of the ISHR Section Russia / 40 years ISHR: Protection of Human Rights - the Vital Aim of Democracy

25 years ago the ISHR founded in St. Petersburg its first Working Group in Russia, shortly after in Moscow and other towns and reagions of the country. The ISHR Section Russia was born. On this occasion a conference of the section entitled "40's Anniversary of the International Society for Human Rights: Protection of Human Rights - the Vital Aim of Democracy" will take place in Moscow, Russia.

ISHR promoting the "Project 2048": Restatement of the Law of Human Rights

The International Society for Human Rights (ISHR) organized two side-events during the Human Rights Council's 16 session on 11 and 12 March 2011.  The panels were hosted in cooperation with Berkeley University under the title:  "Berkeley University's Project 2048 and the International Court of Human Rights" at the Palais des Nations, United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

Boycott of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing on August 8, 2008

This action of the ISHR Switzerland is to protest the host China's government's lack of respect of human rights.
To demonstrate the peoples' opposition face of this shameful farce, we propose that artistic and cultural events be held wherever possible, throughout the duration of the opening ceremony in public places all over the world.

Bangladesh: Drop False Charges against the Journalist and Peace Activist, Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury! An Appeal

"Press in Bangladesh enjoys full and unhindered freedom without any kind of censorship" - so the official homepage of the Bangladesh Embassy in Germany. The persecution case of the Bangladeshi chief editor of two weekly newspapers Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury tells another story. Choudhury is a Muslim journalist, publisher, author and peace activist, a persistent and outspoken opponent of the radical Islamists and advocate of human and religious rights. He is the only Muslim journalist facing sedition, treason and blasphemy charges for confronting culture of jihad and religious hatred as well as promoting interfaith understanding and establishment of relations between Israel and the Muslim nations. His next trial is on April 15, 2008.

Cuba: Four Political Prisoners Freed. ISHR Spends Recognition to Four German Politicians

Martin Lessenthin, speaker of the board at the International Society for Human Rights extends his heartfelt appreciation to four political sponsors for their support of the unjustly imprisoned human rights defenders in Cuba and for helping to bring attention to the significant problem - political prisoners in Cuba. 30 German politicians have adopted a Cuban political prisoner through the ISHR's program so far. Among the sponsors are the President of the European Parliament, Professor Hans-Gert Pöttering, and the Prime minister of Germany's State of Saarland, Peter Müller.
ISHR Exhibition "Discover the real Cuba"

The ISHR exhibition "Discover the real Cuba" shows the hidden side of Cuba's reality - a police state, censorship, economic misery and severe persecution. It portrays cases of political prisoners in Cuba, their places of detention and prisons, the situation of their families and relatives. It explains the importance of tourism for Cuba's rulers and its outcome for the citizens. The exhibition opening took place on December 5, 2007 in the representation building of Saarland in Berlin and will be shown in 100 cities of Germany.

Retrospection: International Cuba Conference 2006

Whereas in Europe a decreasing number of people make use of their right to vote, others fight bravely for its preconditions - freedom of opinion, freedom of information and freedom of press. For this reason ISHR invited over 70 participants from European, Latin American and North American human rights organisations, politicians and journalists to its International Cuba Conference, which focused on the topic "Freedom of Opinion and -Press for all Cubans!" Chances for a Democratic Change in Cuba? It took place on May 5th and 6th during the ISHR-Annual Meeting.
Our Christmas Present to Dictators

At the end of each year, the International Society for Human Rights (ISHR) sends little thoughtful presents to despots and dictators in order to raise their attention to the human rights violations in their countries.
Human Rights Exhibition "Fields of Shame"

China and Tibet, Burma, Cuba, North Korea - the human rights situation in these countries is a catastrophe: people are systematically persecuted, detained, tortured and in the worst case killed because of their political or religious views. The travelling exhibition "Fields of Shame", which could be seen in 36 German cities in summer and autumn 2005, documents human rights violation in these countries on 100 metres of hoarding.
Christmas baubles

The International Society for Human Rights packed a very unusual Christmas gift.  The ISHR had used the upcoming Christmas celebrations as opportunity to send heads of state, who were responsible for human rights violations in their countries, a special Christmas greeting. The notorious human rights violators received a package, which contained four Christmas baubles that were redesigned to look like leg shackles with lead balls.
